Some new uniforms have already been released or will be released in the coming weeks. Back at the draft, the Anaheim Ducks unveiled their 30th anniversary uniforms, while on September 16th, the Boston Bruins will share their new home, away and alternate jerseys to commemorate their centennial season.
Several other teams are expected to unveil new jerseys this season, whether that be an alternate or for outdoor games and on Thursday we got our first look at the Minnesota Wild's "new" third jersey.
The Minnesota Wild will be bringing back their Reverse Retro jersey from the 2022-23 season that is in the colours of the North Stars. There are some small, but notable changes from the Reverse Retro version.
For starters, the back of the collar does not feature the Reverse Retro logo or what year the jersey was inspired by. The NHL shield on the front of the jersey is in silver and black now, where as it was orange and black in the Reverse Retro version. Finally, the biggest change is on the right shoulder, where it now features a patch that's only been worn on a Wild jersey once, and that was at the 2016 Stadium Series. The patch says "State of Hockey" in an oval with two gold stars, surrounding crossed hockey sticks and on top of an outline of the state of Minnesota.
Appears the #mnwild third jersey has leaked! Green version of their Reverse Retro from last season with a new shoulder patch.
Excellent opportunity for a pun if ever there was one. https://t.co/sgEPjdsZXk icethetics (@icethetics) August 31, 2023
A quick scan of NHLuniforms.com shows that this "new" third jersey marks the first time that the Wild have an alternate in their rotation since the 2016-17 season. From 2009 to 2017, the Wild wore a green and cream coloured uniform with a wordmark saying "Minnesota Wild" on a diagonal.
