Kent Hughes has had a busy couple of days, first re-signing Arber Xhekaj and now locking down Kaiden Guhle.

The Montreal Canadiens and Kent Hughes announced today a contract extension with defenceman Kaiden Guhle.

The 22-year-old drafted in the first round 16th overall of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft has skated in 114 games for the Canadiens scoring 10 goals along with 30 assists for forty points along with 83 penalty minutes.

Guhle will be around for the foreseeable future as he put pen to paper on a six-year deal worth $33.3 million. If you break that down the AAV for the life of the contract equates to $5.55 million per season.

In re-signing both Xhekaj and Guhle, Hughes has shown that he has faith in his young back end to get the job done and with the possibility of adding a veteran down the line, it could signal a resurgence or a shift in success for the Canadiens moving forward and down the line.

While the Canadiens still have a massive hill to climb to gain respectability, fans and the like should feel encouraged that Hughes has made it his mission to make sure the young core which he has helped draft and develop gets the notoriety they deserve. They can now move forward and focus on making more history of the franchise.
