Patrik Laine left the game tonight against the Toronto Maple Leafs after being on the receiving end of a knee-on-knee hit.

If Patrik Laine didn't have bad luck he'd have no luck at all. Laine who was traded this summer to the Montreal Canadiens was participating in a preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs when trying to enter the offensive zone he was caught between two members of the Maple Leafs. The hit itself caused a corkscrew effect and he was hit knee on knee.

Laine was helped off the ice and went straight to the locker room where he has not returned. At this time there is no word on his condition.

After the hit Canadiens tough guy Arber Xhekaj unloaded on Maple Leafs Cedric Pare.

Laine was traded by the Columbus Blue Jackets earlier this summer after he had made it known that he wasn't happy in Columbus and would welcome a change of scenery. Heading in the opposite direction was defenceman Jordan Harris as well as a second round pick.

The trade which occurred was supposed to give Laine a new lease on life. He was excited to be joining Montreal and couldn't wait to get started. Hopefully the news is good and the prognosis long term for the sake of him and the Canadiens turns out too be the best case scenario.
