The New Jersey Devils are set to be without the services of defenceman Jonas Siegenthaler for an indefinite period of time.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that Siegenthaler is dealing with a concussion stemming from a hit to the head he received from New York Rangers rookie forward Matt Rempe earlier this week.

"Jonas Siegenthaler has a concussion.

#NJDevils" Devils reporter James Nichols said.

The incident occurred late in the second period during Monday's game between the two teams. Siegenthaler was dumping the puck into the Rangers' zone when Rempe comes in and launches his elbow into the head of the Devils blueliner.

Rempe was given a five-minute major and ejected from the game and yesterday was handed a four-game suspension from the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety.

Siegenthaler, a native of Zurich, Switzerland, has appeared in 49 games this season with the Devils where he's put up nine points (one goal, eight assists), 18 penalty minutes and is a minus-four.

The Devils and Rangers will meet one more time this season - April 3rd. So expect some fireworks at Madison Square Garden that night.
