Sometimes, officiating in the game of hockey is questionable at best, a lot of the time if we're being honest. Tonight is no exception.
The New York Islanders are taking on the Toronto Maple Leafs and the officials have been anything but consistent. Near the end of the first period, Maple Leaf forward Noel Acciari took Brock Nelson hard into the boards a questionable play, take a look:
I can see both sides of this, on the one hand, Acciari goes into this hit relatively slow, he should have time to stop if he chooses to. On the other hand Nelson turned at the last second and put himself into a vulnerable position exposing his head and neck.
At a certain point, we have to put the onus on the player turning into the boards as much as we talk about the player delivering the hit.
There was no penalty call on the play and that has people divided. I personally think an argument could be made on both sides.
Update: Nelson hasn't returned for the 2nd period.
