It seems that bad luck continues to follow the New York Islanders. The team is currently sitting at the last position in the Metropolitan Division with a 3-5-2 record, and injuries are starting to pile up.
Just over a week ago, the Isles lost Anthony Duclair to a lower-body injury. The forward was injured in a game against the Montreal Canadiens on October 19 and is expected to miss between four and six weeks of action.
Now, the team announced that Mat Barzal is stepping away from the team to get evaluated in Long Island for an upper-body injury:
On Wednesday, Barzal received a dangerous hit in the Islanders' game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. While it wasn't confirmed that this hit caused the injury that forced the player to step away from the team during their road trip, many believe this is how he got hurt:
This season, in 10 games, Barzal scored two goals and three assists with the Islanders. He currently sits at the fifth rank in the team's scorers, tied with Bo Horvat and Maxim Tsyplakov. Only Noah Dobson, Brock Nelson, with six points, and Kyle Palmieri with seven; scored more.
Without Barzal and Duclair, the team will struggle to find its way back on the right track. Patrick Roy and his men will have a lot of work to do if they want to remain competitive in the next stretch of the season.
General Manager Lou Lamoriello will need to do more to help his team than what he did this season. Signing Martin to a one-year deal won't be enough for the Islanders to bounce back.
