The New York Rangers are off to a red-hot start in 2024/25, and now they've placed veteran defenseman Chad Ruhwedel on waivers after playing just one game for the Eastern Conference powerhouse this season.

The New York Rangers are one of many teams off to incredible starts in 2024/25, with the team losing just once in overtime through six games, and with a deep, star studded lineup, this is a team that could finally push for the Stanley Cup Finals this season. Now, they've made the surprise move of placing veteran Chad Ruhwedel on waivers after playing just one game with the team this season after just five played with the team a year ago.

The 34-year old debuted in the NHL way back in 2012 with the Buffalo Sabres, and while he never became a top contributor that some potentially saw him as, he played in 34 games with the Stanley Cup winning Pittsburgh Penguins back in 2016/17. Over his career, Ruhwedel has played in 365 games, tallying 13 goals and 49 points over that time, but with just six NHL games over the past two years, it's clear his future as a full-time NHLer may be gone.

As for yesterday's waivers, Elliotte Friedman confirmed that Conor Sheary of the Tampa Bay Lightning officially cleared waivers and will take his $2 million AAV salary down to the AHL as a depth forward. This marks yet another day with very little movement on the waiver wire, as teams are finally solidifying their roster and finding the lineups that work for them, with Ruhwedel likely to clear waivers and remain as a depth piece for the Rangers this season as they look to push for their long awaited Stanley Cup Finals appearance.
