It has been a tough season for Rempe. He has bounced between the NHL and AHL several times, getting into just four games with the Rangers so far.
That being said, his fortunes may be changing tonight. According to Rangers reporter Larry Brooks, Rempe appears to be drawing into the lineup tonight against the New Jersey Devils with Jimmy Vesey being a healthy scratch.
In the same post, Brooks called out the Rangers for their treatment of Rempe this season.
Constantly sending him up and down from the AHL to the NHL and not letting him get into a groove at either level seems to be having a negative impact on his performance.
In 12 games at the AHL level, he has just 2 goals and 3 points, along with 9 penalty minutes.
The 22-year-old has 7 penalty minutes and zero points in 4 games with the Rangers.
That being said, many Rangers fans are happy with the way things have gone with Rempe so far this season.
If anything, a lot of fans seem to think that he should not be in the lineup at all, ever.
Other fans have pointed out how unfair it is that he keeps getting moved between the two clubs.
Not only is it hard to find your game when you are constantly switching teams, but it must be mentally and emotionally exhausting as well. Rempe deserves a better fate that that.
So while Rangers fans may disagree as to what is best for the team in terms of Rempe's deployment, they all seem to agree on one thing.
Whether he stays in the NHL or gets sent down to the AHL, it would be best for everyone involved to give him some consistency.
After all, Rempe was at his best last season during a long stretch in the AHL where he scored 8 goals and 12 points in 43 games.
If there isn't a spot for him in the show right now, the Rangers should just let him cook with the Hartford Wolf Pack. Otherwise, he may never be able to turn into a consistent player at the NHL level.
