One of New York's Star Players Has Injury Scare During Practice
New York Rangers training camp has gotten underway this week, opening up an opportunity for all players to make a positive impression on management. Sometimes this can cause players to become to overzealous which can lead to injuries.
Rangers had a scare during practice today as their top two centers Mika Zibanejad and Vincent Trocheck collided in the middle of the ice. Zibanejad took the worst of it staying down for sometime but luckily didn't leave the ice and head to the dressing room.
The 31 year old, Zibanejad saw a drop last season in production from his career high 91 point season in 2022-23. In 81 games, he scored 26 goals and 72 points. Zibanejad is signed until the 2029-30 season, carrying a cap hit of $8.5M.
Trocheck hit a career high in points last season scoring 25 goals and 77 points in 82 games. He surpassed Zibanejad in the depth chart becoming the Rangers top center last season. He averaged 21:27 in ice time compared to Zibanejad's average of 19:44.
The Rangers won the NHL Presidents' Trophy last season as the best team in regular season, finishing with a record of 55-23-4. They open their preseason schedule on Sunday, facing the Boston Bruins.
