New York Rangers rookie enforcer Matt Rempe has made quite the impression on the league in his brief 10 game cameo appearance. In his short time, he has already fought well known tough guys Ryan Reaves, Nicolas Deslauriers, Matt Martin and Mathieu Olivier. He was also suspended four games for his intentional elbow to the head of New Jersey Devils defenceman Jonas Siegenthaler.
Rempe finished serving his suspension on Sunday, following the Rangers 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders. Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette chose to keep Rempe out of the lineup having him serve as a healthy scratch for the team's 4-2 loss to the Central division leading Winnipeg Jets.
Laviolette dropped some interesting comments to the media about Rempe and fighting in the league. Laviolette would like to see fewer staged fights in the NHL.
The Rangers head coach revealed that he didn't want Rempe to fight Devils Kurtis MacDermid because the Rangers team viewed Rempe's earlier hit on Nathan Bastian as a clean one.
Expect to see Rangers #73 in the lineup for Thursday night's game against the big bad Boston Bruins.
