Top Insider Darren Dreger Reveals When Chris Kreider Will Likely be Traded by the New York Rangers
The top insider Darren Dreger revealed when Chris Kreider should be traded by the New York Rangers.
The Rangers haven't been able to maintain the rhythm they set last season in their Presidents' Trophy-winning campaign.
After 21 games, they have a 12-8-1 record, sitting at the Metropolitan Division's 4th rank, six points behind the Washington Capitals at the third spot.
Elliotte Friedman mentioned a few days ago that the Rangers are expected to make big moves soon, likely involving players such as Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba.
The two veterans offered great services to the Rangers, but their current struggles hint at the end of their journey with the organization.
Kreider, 33, spent his whole career with the Rangers. He scored 561 points in 834 regular season games, and 76 points in 123 playoff games since being drafted 19th overall in 2009 by New York.
This season, in 19 games, the forward scored only nine points and has a -1 rating.
Kreider seems poised to be traded out of the organization, and another insider shed light on how it could unfold.
According to Darren Dreger, the Rangers will likely wait until the offseason to deal Chris Kreider:
After the current season, the player will have two more years on his $6.5 million AAV deal with the Rangers.
There's no rush to make a deal happen now.
In the summer, if the NHL does increase the salary cap, more teams could be on the derby to get him, which would greatly benefit the Rangers.
This could also be a part of an elaborate plan to wake Kreider up amid this rough season. With the team's struggles, all players are expected to show why they deserve a spot on the lineup every night. Kreider makes no exception.
Kreider himself commented on the trade rumors:
"I think it's pretty obvious there's frustration, angst, tension. Good. We're 20 games in. Let's go through this shit now and figure out who we are.
We had the best regular season in the history of an Original Six franchise last year, won a Presidents' Trophy and didn't go as far as we would've liked.
We're getting exposed right now. Our warts are out there and teams are picking on the things we don't do well and we've gotten away from the things we do do well.
We don't necessarily know what this is right now, right? This could just be part of the story. We look back at this and say, 'This made us better'."
Kreider and the Rangers will be back on the ice tomorrow to face John Tortorella and the Philadelphia Flyers. We can't wait to see what Kreider brings to the table for that Division clash.
