The Ottawa Senators had lofty expectations coming into the 2023-24 season and were hoping to make a big jump towards a wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. However, that didn't happen.

During the season, the Senators fired general manager Pierre Dorion, as well as head coach D.J. Smith and currently sit seventh in the Atlantic Division with a record of 35-40-4 through 79 games and are set to miss the playoffs for the seventh consecutive year.

Some big changes could be coming in Ottawa this summer, especially on the bench as they continue to search for a permanent head coach for the team.

It's unclear if the Senators would consider blowing up their core or at least move out a big name to shake things up a bit, but according to Andy Strickland, the team did kick tires on a Brady Tkachuk deal this season to see what they could get in return for him.

"According to Andy Strickland on the Cam and Strick podcast, the Ottawa Senators reportedly kicked tires on a Brady Tkachuk trade 'just to see what they could get in return.'" TheMug said on Instagram.

Trading your captain would be a big and bold move for the Senators to make and given his importance to the organization, it seems unlikely that will happen anytime soon.

However, there are big names on Ottawa's roster that could draw interest over the summer including on the blue line with Thomas Chabot and Jakob Chychrun.

It's going to be an interesting summer in Canada's capital to say the least and there's a good chance they'll be the busiest team north of the border as they look to improve for the 2024-25 season.
