The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Tuesday that they've hired three-time Stanley Cup champion and veteran of 939 career NHL games, Patrick Sharp, as a Special Advisor to Hockey Operations.

Flyers President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones and General Manager Danny Briere commented on the hiring in a statement on the team's official website.

"In adding Patrick Sharp to our group, we are gaining an individual who has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to building an environment of winning at all levels," said President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones. "Patrick knows what it takes to win, he understands how to convey that to our players and is a relationship maker. He will be a vital component as we continue to build the foundation of the Philadelphia Flyers."

"I am proud to announce the addition of Patrick Sharp to our hockey operations team," said Briere. "Patrick is a well-established veteran on-and-off the ice and his incomparable hockey knowledge will be a valuable asset to our organization and young prospects."

Sharp, 41, was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers back in 2001 and appeared in 66 games with them before being traded to the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2005-06 season.

The Winnipeg native went on to have the most productive years of his career in Chicago, winning the Stanley Cup three times, including in 2010 against the Flyers. He ended his professional career following the 2017-18 season and then spent the following five seasons working with NBC Sports and NBC Sports Chicago in colour commentary and in-studio roles.
