The Philadelphia Flyers have placed a former 4th overall pick on unconditional waivers.

Just over five months after being acquired by the Philadelphia Flyers from the Colorado Avalanche, it appears that Ryan Johansen is 24 hours away from becoming an unrestricted free agent.

In a post on social media on Tuesday, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared that the Philadelphia Flyers have placed Ryan Johansen on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract. Johansen had one year remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $8 million USD.

The Flyers added that they've placed him on waivers for what they call a 'material breach', and said they had no further comment at this time.

Johansen, 32, was traded to Philadelphia back in March in the Sean Walker deal with Colorado. Not long after the trade, the Flyers placed Johansen on waivers in an attempt to have him play in the American Hockey League, but that never happened as it was revealed that the 32-year-old was dealing with injury issues. He never suited up in a game for the Flyers or their AHL affiliate after the trade and will now be a UFA on Wednesday.

In 63 games last season, Johansen had 23 points (13 goals, ten assists), 34 penalty minutes and was a minus-six.
