Mike Lange is one of the most iconic voices in all of hockey, especially for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and today his loss is being felt by the NHL as a whole.

The NHL has been through plenty of tragedy over the past few years, and unfortunately, another terrible loss was announced on social media on Wednesday evening.

According to reports, Mike Lange, an iconic broadcaster for the Pittsburgh Penguins has passed away aged 76, with tributes flowing in from fans immediately after the news broke.

Starting with the Penguins back in 1976, Lange called some of the most iconic moments and players such as Jaromir Jagr, Sidney Crosby and Mario Lemieux, as well as five impressive Stanley Cup wins all the way up until he transitioned to radio in 2006.

For the next 15 years, he would become the radio voice of the Penguins team, with his voice becoming synonymous with one of the most successful NHL organizations of the modern era.

After the announcement, fans showed their favourite Lange moments from his tenure as the voice of the Penguins, and it's safe to say that there's very few broadcasters in the history of the NHL that have more iconic calls.

While Lange was blessed to cover a team that gave him so many fantastic moments to lend his voice too, he added immense talent to the presentation of the organization, and while he retired full-time in 2021, he will be remembered as the voice of the team for many generations of fans.

We take the time to send our condolences to the friends and family of Lange, as well as those in Pittsburgh both on and off the ice that were effected by him throughout his lengthy career, as he will be remembered fondly by all, not only in Pittsburgh but throughout the NHL.

Rest in Peace, Mike Lange.
