Tristan Jarry has struggled early in the new NHL season, so much so that GM Kyle Dubas is facing backlash from his grandmother for signing him to a long-term deal.
The 2024/25 season has not started the way that the Pittsburgh Penguins would have liked, with a four-game losing skid taking them to 3-6-1 through their first 10 games. While there's plenty of blame to go around, after his poor start, Tristan Jarry is facing immense amounts of criticism, with the veteran goaltender recently sent back to the AHL to work on his game.
That move shouldn't come as much of a shock given Jarry's start where he has posted a 5.47 GAA and an .836 save percentage through three games, with the 29-year old clearly struggling more than just on the ice. What makes the situation worse is his lengthy contract, with three years remaining after this season on a deal that will pay Jarry $5.25 million per season, handcuffing the Penguins to an ageing, struggling goaltender.
Now, in a shocking move, the grandmother of General Manager Kyle Dubas has called this move out on social media, voicing when many Penguins fans feel about the situation.
Cmon Pens, you got to get it together, time to realize time is moving on and so should the Penguins!!
Not only is it hilarious that the grandmother of an NHL General Manger is calling out the moves on social media, but it is also very accurate, as the team should have parted ways with Jarry before the deal was signed.
Ultimately though, they are now stuck with him for years to come unless they are willing to sacrifice draft capital for a team to take on his entire contract, and with the team falling to four straight losses, things could get ugly in Pittsburgh this season.
