Earlier this summer Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins poached longtime Director of Scouting Wes Clark from the Toronto Maple Leafs. Well as fate would have it, they may have done it again as Chris Roque is now listed on the Penguins website.
Roque began his hockey career back in 2000 where he was the assistant coach for the NOJHL's Espanola Screaming Eagles. After multiple years as an assistant general manager with the Sudbury Northern Wolves and scout at the junior level first with the Kingston Frontenacs & then the Soo Greyhounds, he was hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs as an amateur scout.
It is commonplace and quite standard that if a high-ranking member of a team staff or front office leaves for whatever reason, some staff may follow, especially if they have a long-standing history together and that seems to be the case here. With six years of amateur scouting behind him, Roque could be exactly what the Penguins need to have the team return to respectability after several years of trending in the wrong direction.
If the addition of Clark and Roque helps Dubas and the Penguins then so be it, however, you can count on one hand how many players in the system that the trio could have had a part in drafting that are surefire players who will have impactful NHL careers.
