Another season started for the Pittsburgh Penguins last night. It marked the beginning of Sidney Crosby's 20th campaign in the NHL. When Crosby first came into the league, he quickly earned a reputation for letting his emotions get the best of him. 20 years later, he hasn't changed.
Last night, the Penguins played their first home game of the season and ended up losing 6-0 against the New York Rangers.
The Rangers were all over the place. Five of their players scored, including Chris Kreider, Alexis Lafrenière, and Vincent Trocheck, among others.
After two periods, the Rangers already had a 4-0 lead, with this goal from Chris Kreider.
A visibly angry Sidney Crosby lashed out and gave a powerplay to New York by cross-checking Mika Zibanejad.
On his way to the penalty box, Crosby continued to whine, giving fans more reasons to criticize his attitude.
Later in the game, it continued, as the Pens' captain was involved in another incident.
He entered in a collision with the Rangers' goaltender, Igor Shesterkin, and made sure the goalie felt his presence. Shesterkin played very well, showing his colors as he entered the final year of his contract after refusing a record-breaking offer from the Rangers.
Watch what he did here:
After that incident, he was spotted in a confrontation with the Rangers rookie Victor Mancini as he skated back to the bench. Both players exchanged words, and Crosby hooked Mancini with his stick:
Despite all this, Crosby remains one of the most respected players in the NHL. He's looked up to by all other stars in the league for his on-ice accomplishments. His contributions to the sport and the community go beyond such incidents that occur during a game.
