An AHL team's plan to generate offense backfired on Monday afternoon leaving fans stunned at what happens as a result.

It was an Upstate New York battle in the American Hockey League on Monday afternoon as the Syracuse Crunch hosted the Utica Comets.

Just over half-way through the first period, the Crunch were set for a 5-on-3 powerplay when Head Coach Joel Bouchard decided to use a very unusual and surprising tactic.

In order to generate some offense, Bouchard pulled his goalie for a 6-on-3 advantage...in the first period. While Bouchard may have thought his plan would work, it immediately backfired.

A member of the Comets intercepted a pass through the middle of their zone and quickly fired it down the ice and into the empty net to tie the game up at 2-2.

"OH MY GAWD.

Syracuse pulls the goalie for a 6x3 advantage.

Ryan Schmelzer says "YEET!"

Tie game."

Thankfully for Bouchard and the Crunch, they would go on to win the game by a score of 5-4 in overtime, but it's safe to say he won't be trying that again anytime soon.
