The last few days have been a nightmare for the people in Florida effected by Hurricane Milton, and while sports may be of the least concern to those people at this point, it's effected the NHL as well. Recently, the league almost postponed a matchup between the Florida Panthers and Boston Bruins, and now they've officially had to do it for another game.
According to an official NHL press release, the game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Carolina Hurricanes set for October 12 down in Florida has officially been postponed, with a makeup date to be confirmed later.
Immense damage has already been done to Tropicana Field, the former home of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and after Hurricane Helene ravaged the area, this will be the second postponement in the past month for the Lightning. As mentioned, this current situation is so much bigger than sports, as millions have lost their homes and seen immense damage done to properties throughout the Florida area, with recovery efforts clearly taking priority for the NHL and these two teams.
It may be somewhat inconvenient for these teams, but them and their fans will no doubt understand that the situation takes clear priority, with many players potentially effected by this tragedy. We will continue to give updates on the situation with the NHL and any more potential postponements as a result of Hurricane Milton, but for now we simply send thoughts and prayers to those effected by this tragedy, and hope that in this dire time you can find safety and shelter for you and your loved ones.
