Ilya Samsonov learns which team he'll be sent to after being placed on waivers
The Toronto Maple Leafs made a big decision on Sunday afternoon by placing goaltender Ilya Samsonov on the waiver wire after a poor start to the 2023-24.
Over the last 24 hours, many were pondering whether or not a team would place a waiver claim on the Magnitogorsk, Russia native and now we know the answer to that question.
According to TSN's Chris Johnston, Samsonov has cleared waivers and can be assigned to the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies.
Ilya Samsonov (TOR) clears waivers and can now be assigned to the AHL Marlies.
So far this season, Samsonov has a record of 5-2-6 in 15 games with a goals against average of 3.94, an .862 save percentage and one shutout.
Samsonov, 26, is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2023-24 season and will no doubt test the market when it opens up on July 1st. This past summer, Samsonov was awarded a one-year contract worth $3.55 million following an arbitration hearing.
