With Brad Treliving taking over as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs many in Leafland have wonder wondered what the future holds for head coach Sheldon Keefe.

During the 32 Thoughts episode for the Saturday opening of the Stanley Cup Final, Elliott Friedman said that he thinks that the Leafs and Keefe have potential to agree to an extension. He said they've had initial meetings.

"I do think we're going to see the Maple Leafs and Keefe potentially talk about an extension. I think there have been some initial meetings and I wouldn't be surprised if the two sides investigate something like that"

Keefe agreed on a two-year contract extension before the start of the 2021-2022 season meaning his deal expires at the end of next season.

The 42 year old has done a great job during the regular season for Toronto since taking over in 2019. He has a winning record of 166-71-30. The downside is his playoff record of 13-17.

With superstar center Auston Matthews one-year from free agency, it might be a good idea to keep some familiarity around after letting go of long time general manager Kyle Dubas.

It appears Keefe could be extending his stay in Toronto with a likely short term deal in his future.
