Whether the Toronto Maple Leafs decide to trade Mitch Marner, this summer remains to be seen, but that doesn't stop insiders from speculating on what a potential return would be, and we finally know what kind of haul the Leafs could get for Marner.
According to former NHLer turned studio analyst Stu Grimson, the return for Marner would be huge, but they'd also be looking for one type of player to come back as part of the trade.
The Maple Leafs have attempted to address their lack of grittiness in their lineup before, but that has ultimately failed when it mattered most.
If Marner is to be traded at any point, you'd have to think they go after a player who can not only provide some offensive punch, but also has no issues consistently getting under their opponents skin.
When a trade like that comes along, you almost have to do it whether or not the picks and prospects come with it because there will come a point where the possibility of Marner playing out next season and walking away in Free Agency becomes more and more likely. The Leafs cannot allow that to happen.
