It appears that the Toronto Maple Leafs are shopping Swedish forward Calle Jarnkrok this summer and one Atlantic Division rival has reportedly had a conversation about acquiring him.
The Maple Leafs head into the summer with just over $18 million in cap space and with the need for help on the blueline, potentially by bringing in someone like Brandon Montour or Chris Tanev. With defence likely Brad Treliving's priority this summer, he may opt to fill out his forward group with younger players on their entry-level contract or potentially by signing a player or two on league minimum contracts.
Jarnkrok, 32, signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs as an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2022 and has two years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $2.1 million. If they're able to move him, that $2.1 million could be allocated elsewhere, potentially to bring in a big name defenceman on the free agent market on July 1st.
The Gavle native appeared in 52 games this season for the Maple Leafs where he put up 21 points (ten goals, 11 assists), 18 penalty minutes and was a plus-16. He also skated in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games, but failed to record any points.
Maple Leafs General Manager Brad Treliving will have his hands full this summer as he looks to improve his team for a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2025.
