Toronto General Manager Brad Treliving had a successful weekend re-signing second generation Maple Leaf Max Domi to a team friendly four-year, $3,75M AAV and trading for the rights to veteran defenceman Chris Tanev from the Dallas Stars with a contract announcement to be made shortly after free agency opens.
Insider Chris Johnston reports that Treliving wasn't as successful convincing Robertson of his future with the team. The former 2nd round pick from the 2019 NHL Entry Draft informed him that he would like to be traded.
Injuries have derailed the 22 year old's NHL development, playing just 87 games spread across parts of 4 seasons with the Maple Leafs. Robertson is coming off his most production NHL campaign, scoring 14 goals and 27 points in 56 games, while averaging just 11:23 in ice time.
Robertson finished up his three-year entry level contract last season, where he earned $796,667.
It will be interesting what the future holds for Robertson. Will Toronto fulfil his demand? What can Toronto land in return?
