The Toronto Maple Leafs handed out two major extensions a year ago, with both Auston Matthews and William Nylander extending with the team, and now, they've got some more choices to make.
The biggest decision of all is on star forward Mitch Marner, who has been off to a scorching hot start this season, posting 10 goals and 41 points in 31 games thus far, putting him on pace to surpass the 100 point mark for the first time in his career (current career high; 99).
However, while many believed this past off-season that Marner would push for a return to Toronto, things have now changed, as his stellar campaign puts him in line for a massive contract in the summer when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
As a result, Marner is now dealing from a position of power, and according to a recent report from JD Bunkis, Marner has now turned down the team's latest attempt to sign him.
Marner currently earns $10.9 million a season, and given that he's never ascended to the top echelon of players in the NHL, it's believed to be the accurate number for him, but that will all change this summer.
If he can post over 100 points this year, the bidding war for a 28-year old in the prime of his career is going to send that number much, much higher. and if the Leafs can't lock him up before the summer, there's a good chance we see him in a new uniform next season.
