The City of Vancouver's transit company, Translink, says it has changed its Go Canucks Go message on buses in order to be more inclusive

With the Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2020, the City of Vancouver is swelling with pride and tons of support for the team. The company that Runs Vancouver's public transportation system, TransLink, is getting in on the fun, but the choice of slogan is raising some eyebrows.

In the past, messages posted on scrolling boards on buses in Vancouver carried the slogan "Go Canucks Go" when the team is in the playoffs. This year, it's going with "Go Team Go." It seems somewhat generic, and apparently that's the point.

"In a phone conversation with Daily Hive, a TransLink spokesperson explained that each bus can be programmed with only a limited amount of messages, and that 'go Canucks go' wouldn't include other local teams, like the Vancouver Whitecaps and BC Lions.

It's an 'operational restriction,' the spokesperson said."

To clarify, this isn't about inclusiveness in the traditional sense. It's that only so many messages can be programmed on the message boards at a time.

"Updated this story because I think people are misinterpreting the 'inclusive' line.

This is not about Translink trying to be 'woke.' They say it's an 'operational issue' due to the number of messages that can be programmed."

Not everyone is happy about the change regardless of the reason.

"Imagine if the Canucks are in the finals and the busses say 'Go team go!' embarrassing. So Vancouver."

I'm not sure if Vancouver faces more restrictions with their bus message boards than other cities, but they don't seem to have an issue giving specific team names.
