Ovechkin makes big claim about his rivalry with Sidney Crosby
Hockey fans have been extremely lucky to watch two generational talents in Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby for nearly the last two decades now.
The rivalry between Ovechkin and Crosby may be slowly fading, but both players challenged each other to be better throughout there careers and it's led to plenty of success for the duo.
In a recent interview, Alexander Ovechkin said that his rivalry and career with Sidney Crosby has saved the National Hockey League.
"We saved the league. Now they come in, and I guess we're old news," Ovechkin said to The Athletic's Rob Rossi. "But we saved it. It's up to those guys to come in and prove me wrong that we're not the best.
"We saved the NHL."
The success that both Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby have had throughout their respective careers is remarkable and it's going to land them in the Hockey Hall of Fame on the first ballot. Ovechkin is still trying to chase down Wayne Gretzky's goals record, while Sidney Crosby is also showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon, recording 22 points in Pittsburgh's first 18 games this season.
Crosby and Ovechkin have already met once this season and won't face each other again until the calendar turns to 2024 as they face off in Pittsburgh on January 2nd.
