Seravalli went on to add that if the Capitals are unable to trade Mantha, which is likely due to his relatively high cap hit for his production ($5.7 million), then a buyout at the end of June is certainly possible.
During the Capitals' locker clean-out day in April, Mantha expressed his desire to return to the organization next season and prove what he's able to do.
Mantha, 28, was a first-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings during the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. The Longueuil (Quebec) native was traded to the Capitals for a big package going back to the Red Wings which included Jakub Vrana and a 2021 first-round pick.
His time with the Capitals isn't how the team was expecting as he's only recorded 50 points (20 goals, 30 assists), 45 penalty minutes and was a minus-four in 104 games over the last two seasons.
Per reports, the Capitals are ready to move on from Anthony Mantha and have informed teams that he's on the block.
A buyout could also be on the table for the 28-year-old, who said on breakdown day that he wanted to return and prove what he can do:https://t.co/8SPGJP04Gw Sammi Silber 🏒 (@sammisilber) June 2, 2023
