Evgeny Kuzntesov learns his next team after being placed on waivers
The Washington Capitals made a shocking move on Saturday afternoon, placing Russian forward Evgeny Kuznetsov on waivers for the purpose of assigning him to the American Hockey League.
Kuznetsov's cap hit was going to be tough for teams to add via waivers and a trade seems more likely either before the deadline or this summer and on Sunday, we found out where the Capitals forward will be going.
The Washington Capitals announced on X, formerly Twitter, that Evgeny Kuznetsov has cleared waivers and will be assigned to the American Hockey League's Hershey Bears.
"#Caps loan forward Evgeny Kuznetsov to the Hershey Bears (AHL)."
Kuznetsov, 31, exited the NHL's Player Assistance Program on Saturday prior to being placed on waivers and Capitals General Manager Brian MacLellan said that this move was made to give him a fresh start.
In 43 games this season, the Chelyabinsk, Russia native has 17 points (six goals, 11 assists), 24 penalty minutes and is a minus-11.
