In the 2013 NHL Draft, the Montreal Canadiens used their second-round pick on goaltender Zach Fucale out of the QMJHL, a pick that many applauded at the time.
However, he would not reach the NHL until the 2021/22 season with the Washington Capitals, where he would post a 1.75 GAA and a .924 save percentage in four games played, including a shutout in his NHL debut.
That would unfortunately be the only NHL action he'd ever see, as Fucale would head to the KHL in 2023/24, just one year after leading the Hershey Bears to the Calder Cup during an impressive season where he posted a 2.54 GAA and a .902 save percentage.
Now, the 29-year old is looking to push for a return to the NHL, with Kevin Weekes reporting that Fucale has hired agent Dan Millstein to help facilitate a return to North America and potentially the NHL starting in 2025/26.
According to Weekes, there is significant interest in the NHL for Fucale, and with a .926 save percentage in his two seasons in the KHL, it's easy to see why teams would be willing to take a chance on him.
Standing at 6-foot-2, Fucale has the size and the talent to thrive at the NHL level, and at just 29-years of age with so much experience under his belt, now is the time for him to make a career at the highest possible level.
It's unclear as of yet which teams could be interested in him, but given the production behind him and the years still ahead of him, he could be a very cheap option for a team looking to add goaltending for next season.
