After weeks of speculation, the Toronto Maple Leafs have finally made it official. Defenceman John Klingberg has been shut down for the season.
Leafs GM Brad Treliving has announced that Klingberg requires hip surgery, which he'll have near the end of this month, and won't be able to play again in 2023-24.
With this announcement comes the ability for Toronto to go shopping for another blueliner. Klingberg's $4.15 million this season goes on long-term injured reserve with him.
Klingberg played 14 games with the Maple Leafs this season, managing five assists.
