A brutal collision with the end boards has caused a player to be stretchered off the ice during a KHL game and taken directly to hospital for treatment. 27 year old Gleb Kuzmin was in a lot of pain following the incident, as you can see from the video included in this blog.
Gleb Kuzmin was carrying the puck in the offensive zone towards the Avangard Omsk net just over halfway through the second period. He flipped a backhander at the goalie that didn't connect, and then collided with Avangard's Darren Dietz, a former Montreal Canadiens draft pick who has been playing in the KHL since 2017. . Kuzmin went into the end boards head first with plenty of force. He could be seen writhing in pain on the ice before medical officials took him away on a stretcher. Dietz was not penalized on the play.
Salavat Yulaev head coach Viktor Kozlov provided a brief update on Gleb Kuzmin's condition following the game. It did not sound good.
Gleb Kuzmin has spent his entire hockey career playing in Russia in either the KHL for the league's farm system. He's been in the Ufa Salavat Yulaev system since 2014. Dietz, 31, was selected in the fifth round, 138th overall, by the Montreal Canadiens in 2011. He played 13 games in the NHL, all with the Habs, before signing in the KHL for the 2017-18 season, where he's been ever since. Salavat Yulaev defeated Omsk 4-2 in the game.
