Hockey is a notoriously dangerous sport, and after having issues with skates hurting people in recent years, thankfully this KHL incident didn't end too badly.

On the ice during a professional hockey game, so many things can go wrong as high level athletes go at such high speeds with sticks in their hand and blades on their feet, and sometimes, things unfortunately go wrong. In a recent Kontinental Hockey League game, everything that could go wrong did during a clash between HC Sochi and CSKA Moscow, with two Sochi players going down on one play.

First it was a player going down after taking a puck to the face, and then the much worse of the two, as Danil Mokrushev fell awkwardly to the ice, colliding with an opposing skate right to the face in the process. It immediately looked brutal and those on the ice showed grave concern, but thankfully for the players, it doesn't appear to be serious, as he was shown in the locker room later in seemingly high spirits.

Given the tragedy that we saw in the UK last season and several serious injuries in the NHL involving skates, this is a lucky break for all of those involved, and while it's no doing going to leave a nasty scar, this is a lucky escape for the young player.

It's unclear or not whether the NHL and all professional leagues will look to mandate more and more protective equipment as the years go on, but given all of the injuries we've seen, it could be just a matter of time until that happens, but for now, everyone involved is very thankful that a nasty scar is all that will be taken away from this incident.

Is there a time in hockey where players will be forced to wear the full bubble at the highest level?
