Stone was a surprise last-minute scratch for the Knights tonight as they visited Seattle. Unfortunately, the Pacific Division leaders lost an opportunity as they dropped the game in overtime by a final score of 4-3.
After the game, the team officially announced that Stone is out day-to-day with a lower-body injury. This is just the latest in a long history of injuries Stone has dealt with. In fact, he has not played more than 70 games in a season since 2018-19. For reference, that is the last time the Sharks made the playoffs.
At this point, we don't really know what the injury could be other than the fact that it is lower-body. However, Knights reporter Vince Sapienza noted that Stone appeared to be laboring after scoring an empty net goal on his last shift of the previous game against the Edmonton Oilers.
Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy spoke to reporters after the game, detailing the plan for their captain. He said that he will be seeing the team's doctors and taking advantage of the off day to assess the situation and move from there.
Stone has appeared in merely 653 career regular season games despite the fact that he has been in the league for 12 years. Theoretically, he could have appeared in a maximum of 984 games if he played every single game. Sadly, injuries have limited his time on the ice quite significantly. Luckily, this time it does not appear to be his back, but still, it is tough to see him miss time yet again. Hopefully he will get back on the ice soon.
