A very savvy NHL veteran has snubbed his old stomping grounds to sign with a western conference team in what is surprising news to say the least.

The National Hickey League is very physical and taxing on the body and as a player gets older, it takes more of a toll on their body, sometimes veterans near the end of their careers don't sign right away, calling into question whether or not he plans on retiring. This year, that is the case for Zach Parise

According to Michael Russo of The Athletic, Parise is close to signing a contract and making a return to the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche; Take a look.

Parise, 39, has not played in the NHL yet this season but, has split 1224 games between the New Jersey Devils, Minnesota Wild and New York Islanders. During his career he has collected a total of 429 goals and 450 assists for a total of 879 points.

Parise going to the Avalanche would give him an opportunity to take a run at a cup before his career is over and gives Colorado some scoring depth at the same time. You add in that he'll only play half the season and he should be rather fresh.
