In less than one week, teams around the National Hockey League will need to submit their respective rosters for opening night and in order to assign some of those players to the minors, they need to go through waivers.
Yesterday, 27 players were placed on waivers and we have our first waiver claim. Amid their current goaltending situation, the Boston Bruins have claimed goaltender Jiri Patera off waivers from the Vancouver Canucks.
According to PuckPedia on Tuesday afternoon, a total of 12 players were placed on the waiver wire for the purpose of being assigned to the American Hockey League in time for their training camps, which get underway early this week.
Spencer Martin (Carolina Hurricanes)
Calle Rosen (Colorado Avalanche)
Jack Ahcan (Colorado Avalanche)
Matthew Philips (Colorado Avalanche)
Trey Fix-Wolansky (Columbus Blue Jackets)
Cal Petersen (Philadelphia Flyers)
Scott Sabourin (San Jose Sharks)
Andrew Poturalski (San Jose Sharks)
Jimmy Huntington (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Marc Johnstone (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Mac Hollowell (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Benoit-Olivier Groulx (New York Rangers)
It's expected to be busy on the wire as the week goes on and for Wednesday's crop of players on waivers, we'll have to wait until Thursday at 2 pm ET to see if anyone is claimed or if they'll be assigned to the American Hockey League. The San Jose Sharks get the first crack at making a waiver claim as they finished last in the NHL in the 2023-24 season. They'll get first dibs on waiver claims until November 1st.
