The Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League held their annual draft on Friday night and a massive trade occurred involving the top selection.

In a post on X, the QMJHL announced that the Quebec Remparts acquired the 2024 first overall pick from the Cape Breton Eagles. In return, the Eagles added '07-born goaltender Louca Connolly, the 2024 fourth overall pick, a 2024 second rounder and a first round pick in 2026.

Shortly after the trade was announced by the league, the Quebec Remparts took to the stage and selected Maddox Dagenais with the first overall pick. Maddox's father, Pierre, appeared in 142 games in the NHL for New Jersey, Florida and Montreal.

"Maddox Dagenais is the first overall pick of the 2024 #QDraft! He joins the @quebec_remparts!"

Dagenais, 16, lit up the OMHA U16 AAA division this season while playing for the Quinte Red Devils. In 35 games, he put up 81 points (42 goals, 39 assists).

The addition of Maddox Dagenais is huge for a Quebec Remparts squad who won the QMJHL championship and Memorial Cup in 2023. As the organization takes a big step forward towards being a contender next season, Dagenais will play a key role in ensuring their success.
