An insider has given an update on the 4 players involved in the 2018 Hockey Canada scandal and if they're still able to sign new NHL deals.

The hockey Canada scandal has been the subject of major news for quite some time now. The one I'm talking about of course is the ones surrounding the 2018 World Junior Team four of the five players are still under NHL contract and could sign new deals to stay with their teams today, should they receive qualify offers.

However, according to TSN's Chris Johnston, if Carter Hart, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, and Michael MacLeod are not qualified by a 5 PM tonight then they do become unrestricted free agents.

Sources say there is no change to the NHL rights of the Canadian world junior players charged with sexual assault.

That means Dillon Dubé (CGY), Carter Hart (PHI), Michael McLeod (NJ) and Cal Foote (NJ) will become UFA's if not tendered a qualifying offer by 5 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Of course, the players mentioned above cannot play in the NHL right now, But I wouldn't put it past a couple of teams to try and retain their rights.

Should they go unqualified though, they will be unrestricted free agents and are still able to sign NHL deals. However, if teams don't extend a qualifying offer, I wouldn't expect other teams that didn't have their rights to swoop in and offer them contracts, especially given the state of the investigation.
