Hockey sometimes is more than just a game. Your team becomes your best friends, your family and sometimes the thing that props you up when you need it the most.
The Alberta hockey community and the Airdrie Thunder are mourning the loss of former player Ryan Couling, who after an 18 month battle with cancer, sadly passed away on November 22nd at just 21 years old
Couling played minor hockey in Airdrie, Alberta all his life. Most recently playing 3 seasons with Airdrie Lightning under 18 AA program.
His brother, Zach, plays junior B with the Airdrie Thunder and their general manager Sean Guest has been a family friend for some time had this to say
They've been around the hockey community for as long as I can remember. This is tough, for sure. Ryan fought for a long, long time, but all of a sudden this week, he started losing the battle
Last night the Thunder also paid tribute to Ryan prior to their game.
Our deepest condolences go to the Couling family.
