Alex Ovechkin's chances of passing Wayne Gretzky just got much better
The Washington Capitals have only had Alex Ovechkin to rely upon for the team identity and for a reliable goal scorer. His 34-game stats are an impressive 20 goals and 16 assists.
While Ovechkin may be having a great season, the team has to be elated that Tom Wilson and Nicklas Backstrom have started skating again in contact jerseys.
Backstrom and Wilson practiced on the 1st line with Ovechkin in a return to form, for a Capitals team that has been decimated by injuries at the end of last season. Fans will have something to look forward to in the future, as for now, this won't be the 1st line against the Ottawa Senators.
The injuries have exposed the lack of depth in the organization, as Sonny Milano, Connor Sheary, and Dylan Strome have been used to shore up a broken 1st line in these two players' absence. The sooner Wilson and Backstrom slot back in for the Capitals, the better.
