Anaheim assistant coach diagnosed with cancer, releases statement

The game of hockey is one of community and family, especially at the NHL level and this is something you never want to hear about.

According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, Anaheim Ducks assistant coach Mike Stohers has been diagnosed with stage 3 cancer.

Important message from @AnaheimDucks assistant coach Mike Stothers, who shares the news of his cancer diagnosis.

Stitchers had this to say in a statement regarding his diagnosis:

I want to thank all of my family, friends and the Ducks organization, led by our owners Henry and Susan Samueli, for their incredible support during this difficult period.

If I could share one simple message to all: listen to your body. If you notice something unusual, or don't feel like yourself, consult a doctor immediately. Please do not wait. It could be the best decision you ever make

Anaheim's owners have also released the following statement in light of the Stothers news:

Mike is one of the toughest and finest people in hockey. The Ducks organization and the entire NHL community is firmly behind him. We also support and appreciate Mike's message. For him to take the time to try and help others while dealing with his own battle says a lot about who he is

Stothers has been an assistant coach with the Ducks since 2021.
