Boston Bruins unable to acquire their top Patrice Bergeron replacement target
The Boston Bruins are entering their centennial season. After setting the NHL record for the best season by a team, the Bruins are now in a difficult spot. After the retirement of the teams, two top centers, the Bruins have turned to the trade market to try and find replacements.
Unfortunately for Boston, they've come up empty in their quest to land a top center. At last year's trade deadline, the Bruins spent a lot of their draft capital in an attempt to win the Stanley Cup. The quest for the cup fell short losing in the first round to the Florida Panthers.
According to Ken Wiebe of Sportsnet, while the Bruins have significant interest in Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele, they are unable to get a deal done. For the Bruins this is a disappointing turn of events, but for a team who hasn't developed prospects recently it isn't unexpected.
Wiebe went onto say that if Scheifele does make it to free agency next summer, he expects the Bruins to be at the top of his destination wishlist.
It appears that the Bruins will have no choice but to go into next season with the status quo, which could be a challenge for the team. It will be interesting to see what the Bruins can accomplish in the next few weeks.
