Breaking News - Matt Murray under investigation by the NHL
Earlier today, Michael Russo of the Athletic and Bally Sports went off in a Twitter thread, saying that the NHL Situation Room is investigating instances of Matt Murray, and other goaltenders, knocking off their nets.
Michael Russo, who covers the Wild, was keen to remember the Leafs game in Minnesota this year where Murray's net came loose several times. Russo began mentioning that the Situation Room noticed Murray rocking the net during a TV timeout.
Hilariously, Russo kept engaging with Twitter replies, deepening his assertion that the league is watching Murray, and confirming that he is absolutely sour about it.
Many others have come to the defence of Murray, and rightfully so. It's much more believable that a goaltender with his frame and weight could conceivably knock off the net while sealing the post, or pushing off the net to slide across the crease. It's much more rational to assume the onus is on the league to install secure posts than it is to believe Matt Murray is trying to cheat.
Regardless, if Russo is right in that the NHL is investigating Murray and the nets being knocked off more, it's possible they are looking at measures to better secure the net. What's for absolute certain though, is that Russo is absolutely sour about Murray.
