The Four Nations Face Off tournament was beloved by causal and hardcore hockey fans alike, with the physicality and the fighting a major part of why the event drew such praise from around the sporting world.
Unfortunately, when that type of environment is created, injuries are bound to follow, with Matthew Tkachuk limited to just six minutes in the Finale against Canada, with the Florida Panthers forward set to miss a little bit of time.
It may be much worse than initially anticipated however, as reporter Renaud Lavoie has now suggested it could be much longer, and even an injury that could cost No. 19 the remainder of his 2024/25 season.
Lavoie would state that this isn't guaranteed, as he is waiting on further reports from Tkachuk and the Panthers, to 100% confirm the severity of the injury, but whether it ends his season or not, as of right now all signs point to a significant amount of time missed.
Losing Tkachuk would be a major blow for the defending Stanley Cup Champions, but if it's confirmed now that will give the team time to potentially find a replacement on the trade market, with the March 7th trade deadline still two weeks away, giving them plenty of questions to answer.
Whether or not Tkachuk misses the entire season will be something we report on when further details become available, but given the star power on this roster, they're right in the window for Stanley Cup contention, so if it does happen, expect Bill Zito and co. to be aggressive as they pursue their second Stanley Cup in franchise history.
