The Spengler Cup has historically occurred around Christmas time and brings some of the most interesting and talented hockey teams from around Europe and while Canada has sent a team of players who play for club teams around Europe, occasionally they'll bring a number of players from North America who are more than happy to don the Red & White, this year is no exception.

Michael DiPietro who plays goal for the East Coast Hockey Leagues Maine Mariners has been waiting for his equipment to arrive from North America's east coast since he arrived in Switzerland days ago. The reason for the missing equipment besides lack of staffing inside airports in which DiPietro has needed to travel through has been what was billed the storm of the century by many meteorologists and officials in the affected areas.

As Canada squares off against host Davos, the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation has allowed dual citizen Connor Hughes to suit up today. Hughes, who plays for Swiss team Fribourg-Gotteron HC in the Swiss-A league was likely more than happy to oblige.

As this is happening it begs the question, when will DiPietro's equipment arrive and when it does will it be in time to help his Canadian teammates at one of the most prestigious hockey tournaments of the year, stay tuned.
