Breaking News - Toronto Maple Leafs forced to place another player on long-term injured reserve
The Maple Leafs defense has already been riddled by injuries. With Jake Muzzin dealing with a likely career ending injury and TJ Brodie dealing with an oblique injury that's not responding well to treatment. The last thing the Maple Leafs need is another injury to a defender.
Unfortunately during the third period of last night's game, Morgan Rielly collided with Kyle Palmieri. On the play Rielly fell to the ice awkwardly, but managed to get up under his own power. Rielly would play one more shift before leaving for the night.
After the game Sheldon Keefe downplayed the severity of the injury and the significance of that injury. Today though it appears that the injury could be more significant than initially expected. Darren Dreger shared the following:
Rumblings of a grade 1 or 2 MCL injury for Rielly which would align with LTIR and a 4-6 week recovery.
The Maple Leafs were then forced to place Rielly on long-term injured reserve. This means Rielly must miss 10 games or 24 days, but if the injury is as described, it'll likely be longer. The Maple Leafs may have no choice but to look for help on the backend because at it stands their defense doesn't look good.
