Yesterday's game also marked the first time the two teams met since Jack Edwards oddly attacked Pat Maroon of the Lightning on the broadcast, going on a several minute tangent about Maroon's weight. Maroon responded by raising money, and making a donation himself in Edwards' name, to a mental health charity.
Now to the game and controversy surrounding a few instances of alleged goaltender interference. In the third period, the Bruins' Taylor Hall was assessed a penalty for goaltender interference when he crashed into Andrei Vasilevsky, with his foot elevated to head level. Hall was checked slightly, but made no effort to avoid contact with the goalie, and collided with Vasilevsky in a dangerous manner.
The Bruins' broadcast was furious about the penalty call, and typical of their homer broadcast, harkened back to a previous play in the game where they felt the Lightning deserved a penalty for the same. Ross Colton, while driving the net, is checked by a Bruins defender and falls into the net, avoiding significant contact with Ullmark, and takes the brunt of the impact from the post. The Bruins broadcast however, «doesn't see the difference».
It's typical of the Bruins broadcast to be avid fans, and as much as the rest of the league harps on their bias, it's a broadcast with the fans in mind. It's hard to argue against the passion and organic connection to the fans, even if it's infuriating.
Tampa won 3-2, handing the Bruins only their sixth regulation loss on the year.
