The Boston Bruins had an up and down year this past season. From a team on the outside looking in, to a team that rode the wave of a hot streak from February onwards into the playoffs.
After getting eliminated in the first round by the Carolina hurricanes in 7 games, Don Sweeney made the very questionable choice to fire head coach Bruce Cassidy. Now, it appears that Don Sweeney will remain with the Bruins and has agreed to a new contract extension according to Joe Macdonald.
Like I said above, re-signing Don Sweeney after the questionable choices he made this past season, for me at least, doesn't make a lot of sense. His trade deadline day was okay at best and firing his head coach, who hadn't lost the room, was still respected and who the players still went to war for night in and night out, doesn't look too good on the organization as a whole.
In my opinion, re-signing Sweeney for any length of time is a huge mistake, but we shall see how it pans out for the Bruins in the near future. Sweeney has shown an inability to draft and develop and with the Bruins potentially enter a rebuild soon, it'll be interesting to see if management allows Sweeney to run that rebuild.
