Carolina Hurricanes shopping young forward as they attempt to maneuver cap situation
The Carolina Hurricanes may be looking to shake things up this off-season if the price is right. Their season didn't end as they would've hoped after being eliminated in the second round by the New York Rangers. That loss also might have signalled some changes to their forward group.
According to Pierre Lebrun of TSN, the Hurricanes are receiving offers involving young forward Martin Necas, if the offer includes a young defensemen, they might be willing to listen.
Necas, 23, had 40 points in 78 games this season, including 14 goals and 26 assists.
Given his age and his production level already, I doubt the Hurricanes are eager to trade Necas, but if the offer makes sense, they couldn't really say no. Bolstering their defensive game is the Canes first priority this off-season.
The Canes have multiple free agents and only a limit amount of cap space to get those free agent signed. Necas could simply end up being a cap casualty on route to the Hurricanes signing Tony DeAngelo.
